Company of the week: Miromatrix Medical Inc.

Did you know there is a long waiting list to get an organ transplant?
- There are currently 114,000 people on the transplant waiting list, with another person being added every 9 minutes.

Donors and obstacles:
- 169 million people in the U.S. have registered as donors but only 3 in 1,000 people die in a way that allows for deceased organ donation.
- 60% of patients will not receive the organ they need.
- This results in ~17 deaths per day.

This is clearly a system in healthcare that needs help.

A solution through bioengineering:
Simply, at Miromatrix Medical Inc., their scientists/engineers “decellularize” organs from animals like pigs and “recellularize” them using their patented perfusion technology.

Miromatrix Medical Inc. are still developing their technologies in recellularization techniques, starting with organ programs for kidneys and livers.

The company is on a great track as they filed their IPO in 2021 and are hiring! This company’s products could fix the never ending problem of our current organ transplantation methodologies.

If you work with this company, it is easy to imagine making a big impact in people’s lives by helping replace the disastrous state of organ transplants with a more logical approach.
